Hobbyist Corner ("we," "us," "our") operates hobbyistcorner.com (the "Site"). This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Account information (optional): if you sign in — to save quiz results or like a hobby — we collect your email address via [Supabase Auth / magic link or Google OAuth]. If you use Google sign-in, we receive your name, email, and profile image as provided by Google.
  • Quiz answers: your responses to the hobby-matching quiz (agree/disagree answers, slider values). These reflect lifestyle preferences (e.g. how social or active you like to be) — we don't ask about health, finances, or other sensitive categories, and you don't need an account to take the quiz.
  • Likes: if you like a hobby while signed in, we store which hobbies you've liked, tied to your account.

Information collected automatically:

  • Standard technical data (IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, referring site) via server logs and analytics tools.
  • Cookies and similar technologies — see Section 4.

Information from third parties:

  • If you sign in via Google or another OAuth provider, we receive the profile information that provider shares with us based on your permissions.

We do not knowingly collect payment card numbers, government ID numbers, or health information, and the Site is not designed to collect these.

2. How we use information

  • Operate the quiz and return your hobby matches
  • Save your results and liked hobbies if you create an account
  • Show the "Most Liked Hobbies" section (using aggregate like counts, not your individual identity)
  • Serve and measure advertising (see Section 5)
  • Track affiliate link clicks so we can earn commission on qualifying purchases (see Section 6)
  • Maintain, secure, and improve the Site
  • Communicate with you about your account, if you have one (we do not send marketing email unless you opt in)

3. Legal basis for processing (EEA/UK visitors)

If you're located in the EEA or UK, we process your data on the following bases: performance of a contract (running your account), legitimate interests (operating and improving the Site, fraud prevention), consent (non-essential cookies, marketing communications if any), and legal obligation where applicable.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

  • Essential functions: keeping you signed in, remembering quiz progress
  • Analytics: understanding how visitors use the Site
  • Advertising: see Section 5 — our ad partners use cookies/identifiers to personalize and measure ads

On your first visit, you'll see a cookie banner where you can accept or decline non-essential cookies (analytics/advertising). You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Declining some cookies may affect Site functionality (e.g. staying signed in).

5. Advertising

We display ads through Google AdSense[, and may add other ad networks such as Ezoic or Mediavine as the Site grows]. These providers may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. 6. Affiliate links

Some hobby profile pages include affiliate links (e.g. Amazon Associates and similar programs). If you click one and make a qualifying purchase, we may earn a commission — at no additional cost to you. Affiliate partners may set their own cookies to track the referral; that data is handled under their respective privacy policies, not ours. We only recommend products we believe are genuinely relevant to the hobby in question.

7. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

  • Service providers who help us run the Site — hosting (Vercel), database and authentication (Supabase), analytics, and ad networks — under agreements that limit their use of your data to providing services to us.
  • Legal reasons: if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Hobbyist Corner, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers: if Hobbyist Corner is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we'll notify you via the Site if this happens.

8. Data retention

We keep account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your account data within [30] days, except where we're required to retain it for legal or fraud-prevention purposes. Aggregate, de-identified data (e.g. total like counts) may be retained indefinitely.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal information

10. Children's privacy

11. International data transfers
